In an interview with Puja Talwar, Junaid Khan shared insights into his debut in the Netflix film Maharaj and how he views his father's legacy. Junaid, the son of Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan, emphasized his desire to carve his path in the industry.

Junaid recently made his acting debut with Maharaj, a film available on Netflix. The film is based on the Maharaj libel case and delves into the dark side of sexual exploitation within certain spiritual groups. Reflecting on his unconventional debut, Junaid said, “I don't know about it being unconventional because YRF is a big banner and Sid sir (director Siddharth Malhotra) wanted me in the film. The story is inherently very dramatic.”

He further added, “I have been doing theatre in Mumbai since 2017. Sid sir asked me to come and test for this film. I didn't think of it as conventional or unconventional. I guess producers and directors didn't see me in romantic dramas. You do the work you get but it was a lovely script. It is such a wide medium, I don't think there is any protection in films.”

When asked about his father’s reaction to the film, Junaid revealed that Aamir enjoyed Maharaj. He explained, “I think he liked the film. But that is also… he likes everything. As an audience, when he watches something, he wants to enjoy it, so he ends up liking it. Barring his films where he’s not an audience.”

Junaid also addressed the inevitable comparisons with his father, known for being a perfectionist in the industry. However, he clarified that he does not consider himself a perfectionist like Aamir. “I don’t think so. Everybody has to do their own thing. Life pans out differently for everybody. I’m on this journey, enjoying myself,” he said.

For Junaid, the focus remains on enjoying his journey and exploring the opportunities that come his way, rather than feeling burdened by the legacy of his father.
