Laapataa Ladies: India's official submission to the Best Foreign Language Film category, Laapataa Ladies, directed by Kiran Rao, is no longer in the running for an Oscar. On Tuesday (local time), the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed the ten categories' shortlists for the 97th Academy Awards presentation. The Indian audience was disappointed when the Laapataa Ladies were left off the list.

The movie's obvious, inspiring message and well-crafted, simplification of the plot won praise from both reviewers and viewers. Along with Kiran Rao's subtle storytelling, the film's popularity is also greatly influenced by the youthful cast's exceptional performances.
