Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan’s much-anticipated reunion in Vettaiyan was a moment of nostalgia for fans, bringing the two cinema icons together on screen after 33 years. Directed by TJ Gnanavel, the film featured Rajinikanth as a fearless cop and Amitabh Bachchan as a justice-seeking lawyer. Their intense courtroom showdown was one of the film’s highlights. While audiences were captivated, one actor who witnessed the scene firsthand had a different opinion.
Malayalam actor Alencier Ley Lopez, who played a judge in the film, recently made controversial remarks about the veteran stars. As per News18, during a media interaction, he claimed, “I realised Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan don’t know how to act.”
Recalling how he joined the project, Alencier revealed that he was not paid for his role. However, he was flown to Mumbai and given five-star accommodation. “I was sent a flight ticket to Mumbai and given a luxurious stay. My role was simple – I just had to sit as a judge for one shot while Rajinikanth sir and Amitabh Bachchan sir were on either side,” he shared.

However, for him, the biggest takeaway was not the experience of being in the film but getting a chance to observe the legendary actors up close. Taking a lighthearted jab at Rajinikanth’s signature action sequences, he said, “During my college days, I saw Rajini sir stop a helicopter’s whirring blades with his bare teeth in a movie. I wanted to see how he performs in front of the camera.”
Describing the courtroom scene, he continued, “Rajinikanth delivered his stylised acting, walking out of the courtroom with his signature body language. Then, Amitabh Bachchan roared like a lion, and I had to react in shock.”
The actor then made his most unexpected comment, stating, “I realised I couldn’t compete with them because I don’t have stylised acting skills or a deep baritone. I can only perform in realistic films by directors like Dileesh Pothan, Sharan Venugopal, and Rajeev Ravi. Also, I realised they cannot act.”
Aware of the impact his words might have, Alencier admitted that his comments would likely make headlines and could affect his opportunities in Tamil cinema. He added, “I took this role to observe their performances, not to build a career in Tamil cinema.”
