Mirzapur fans rejoice! Amazon MGM Studios and Excel Entertainment are making waves by bringing their popular crime thriller series Mirzapur to the big screen in 2026. The move marks a significant step for Indian streaming content, as it’s one of the few Indian series transitioning from streaming to theatrical release. Fans of Mirzapur can look forward to an immersive experience as the movie adaptation brings back the show’s most beloved characters.
As per a report by Variety, the Mirzapur film adaptation will reunite audiences with iconic characters, including Pankaj Tripathi’s powerful Kaleen Bhaiya, Ali Fazal’s fierce Guddu Pandit, Divyenndu’s intense Munna Tripathi and Abhishek Banerjee’s Compounder. Puneet Krishna, the original creator, will lead the project, while Gurmmeet Singh, who directed 17 episodes of the series, will take the director’s seat. Singh’s previous work on the series ensures the movie stays true to the tone and grit of the Mirzapur universe.

This venture comes after the record-breaking success of Mirzapur Season 3, which made waves on Prime Video. The film is expected to hit theatres across India with an exclusive eight-week run before landing on Prime Video, where it will be accessible in 240 territories worldwide. Season 4 of the series, which has been eagerly anticipated, will follow the film release, giving fans a continuous storyline.
Excel Entertainment’s Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar, who are producing the film, aim to expand the world of Mirzapur beyond the series’ episodic format. The producers believe the film format will enhance the experience, allowing audiences to delve deeper into the intense dynamics and powerful storytelling that have captivated fans across three successful seasons. “Bringing Mirzapur to theatres is a landmark milestone,” shared Sidhwani and Akhtar. “The movie will offer an engrossing experience, giving fans a chance to immerse themselves in Mirzapur like never before.”
