NewJeans’ Hanni has sparked discussions by sharing Chappell Roan’s powerful Grammy-winning speech, which calls out the mistreatment of artists by music agencies. This comes amid Hanni’s ongoing legal battle with HYBE and ADOR over alleged workplace bullying.

On February 3, 2025, the Grammy Awards took place, where Chappell Roan won the award for Best New Artist. During her acceptance speech, she highlighted the struggles faced by artists, emphasizing the need for record labels to provide fair wages, health insurance, and better treatment. She stated, “Record labels need to treat their artists as valuable employees, with a livable wage, health insurance, and protection. Labels, we got you — but do you got us?”

Hanni, who has been vocal about her issues with HYBE and ADOR, reshared Roan’s speech on her Instagram story. Many believe this was a subtle yet strong statement about her own struggles with her management.

Last year, on October 15, 2024, Hanni attended a National Assembly hearing to discuss alleged workplace bullying at HYBE. She recounted an incident where a manager from another group reportedly instructed their members to ignore her despite exchanging greetings. However, on October 20, 2024, the Ministry of Employment and Labor ruled that Hanni did not qualify as a worker under current laws, meaning she was not legally protected from workplace harassment.

NewJeans previously held an emergency press conference to announce their decision to terminate their exclusive contracts with ADOR, citing unmet demands. ADOR, in response, filed a lawsuit to enforce their contracts. The members, however, have made it clear they have no intention of returning to ADOR or HYBE, securing a well-known law firm for their legal defence.

In the meantime, NewJeans launched a social media contest inviting fans to suggest a temporary new name for the group. However, ADOR has warned that changing their name could lead to serious legal consequences.
