Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), one of India’s most iconic quiz shows, has just completed 25 years since it first aired. Hosted by legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan since the year 2000, the show has become a household favourite, loved for both its entertainment and knowledge. Except for season three, which was hosted by Shah Rukh Khan, Big B has been the constant face of KBC. To mark the special occasion, Amitabh shared a heartfelt message on Instagram.

Amitabh Bachchan took to his Instagram and wrote, “Today 3rd July, 2025, as I work on this year’s KBC prep, I am told by the KBC team – 3rd July 2000, the first broadcast of KBC happened… 25 years, the life of KBC!” Fans and colleagues were quick to send their love. One user commented, “25 glorious years of Kaun Banega Crorepati! From 3rd July 2000 to today, you’ve not just hosted a show, you’ve touched millions of hearts worldwide.” Another wrote, “Congratulations, Sir. You’ve made knowledge a celebration.”

But now, there might be a big change coming to the show. A report from Bollywood Hungama claims that Salman Khan is in serious talks to take over as the host for KBC Season 17. The report said, “Salman Khan is the king of the small screen. He connects well with viewers, especially in smaller towns. If Amitabh Bachchan steps down, Salman would be the perfect choice to continue the legacy.” It’s being said that Big B might leave the show due to personal reasons.

Earlier this year, Sony TV had released the official promo for KBC 17 on 4th April. The promo featured Amitabh Bachchan in a fun role as a patient with a stomach ache, teasing the show’s return. He also announced that registrations were open through the Sony LIV app, SMS, and IVR calls.

Although the exact premiere date hasn’t been announced yet, KBC Season 17 is expected to begin airing in August. Now all eyes are on whether Salman Khan will take the hot seat as the new host, or if Amitabh Bachchan will return to delight viewers once again.
