Anurag Basu is all set to bring romance and heartbreak to the screens with the spiritual sequel of his 2007 film Life In A Metro, titled Metro In Dino. The upcoming movie shares a similar theme and genre, but has a different storyline with a different star cast, except Konkana Sen Sharma. In the 2007 movie, Konkana was paired with the late actor Irrfan Khan. While she is featured in a new role in Metro In Dino, director Anurag Basu revealed that she managed to pay tribute to the late actor in the most heartwarming way.
Konkona Sen Sharma played the role of Shruti in Life In A Metro, who was looking for a life partner in an arranged marriage setup. She was paired opposite Irrfan Khan, who played the role of Monty, a slightly older man. In the spiritual sequel, Konkona will be playing the role of Kajal opposite Pankaj Tripathi, whose character is also named Monty.

In a recent interview with Hindustan Times, Anurag Basu revealed how Konkona suggested remembering Irrfan Khan in this part of the movie as well. He said, "The character was not called Monty. It was Coco's (Konkona) suggestion. 'Let's call him Monty,' she said, and I said, 'Yes, right'. It was on the first day of the shoot." Recently, during the trailer launch event of the film, Anurag Basu also mentioned that the entire soundtrack and the movie are a tribute to Irrfan Khan and singer KK.
On June 23, 2025, the starcast of the movie graced the album launch event with their presence, and a video from the event has gone viral featuring Aditya Roy Kapur in his singing mode. The actor was spotted singing ‘Ishq Hai Ya Tharak’ song from the movie. Fans were quick to recall his character Rahul Jaykar from Aashiqui 2 and praised his singing skills online.
Metro In Dino is all set to hit the theatres on July 4, 2025, with a talented star cast including Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Pankaj Tripathi, Neena Gupta, Konkona Sensharma, Anupam Kher, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Ali Fazal, and Saswata Chatterjee. The movie is directed by Anurag Basu and is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, and Tani Basu alongside Anurag Basu.
