Diljit Dosanjh's next Punjabi film, Sardaar Ji 3 is scheduled to open in Pakistan on June 27 despite the two countries' existing disputes. The decision has shocked and infuriated fans throughout India. Sardaar Ji 3 will have a full-fledged theatrical run across the border after screenshots of theater listings from Pakistani towns like Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Faisalabad and Sialkot went viral.

Diljit Dosanjh's movie, which also stars Pak actor Hania Aamir will release across border, according to a report by News18 Showsha. In the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack in April this year, Diljit Dosanjh's Indian fans have labelled this move 'shameful' and 'disrespectful.' Many are also offended by the Punjabi singer-actor's ongoing affiliation with the horror comedy franchise and his advocacy for its release, even in Pakistan. The fact that the movie also stars a number of other Pakistani actors, such as Nasir Chinyoti, Daniel Khawar, and Saleem Albela, has only served to stoke the flames.

For the unversed, Indian cinema organisations have taken a strong stand against collaborating with Pakistani artists. Following the recent terror attack, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), which has long opposed such partnerships, reaffirmed its call for a ban on Pakistani performers.

The film's producers, however, defended their choice of cating Hania Aamir by claiming that she was chosen before tensions between India and Pakistan increased. "This is to bring to everyone’s kind notice that the film named, Sardaarji 3, was shot well before the prevailing situation that our country is facing now and it was never ever the case that any Pakistani artist was signed or was engaged after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. We stand united with our country and our fellow countrymen during this sensitive time. Considering the same, we had decided not to release the film or any of its promotional content in India until the situation becomes opportune," read the statement.

Earlier, Diljit Dosanjh had discussed casting Hania Aamir shortly after the controversy surfaced. He said in an interview that the film was shot prior to the present tensions between India and Pakistan. He informed BBC Asian Network that the producer's money is at risk.
