Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel starrer Gadar 2, which released in August 2023, proved to be one of the biggest blockbusters of recent times. The movie became the fourth highest-grossing Indian movie of the year, after Jawan, Pathaan and Animal. The craze among fans was such that advance bookings set records. But around the time of its release, Gadar 2 was also surrounded by headlines about the reported fallout between its director Anil Sharma and leading lady Ameesha Patel. The actress had reportedly expressed her disappointment and revealed that she felt cheated after the climax was changed without her knowledge, especially since she had been expecting a more prominent role alongside Sunny Deol.

Meanwhile, later the Gadar 2 director Anil responded to these claims and referred to Ameesha as moody. He further  clarified that everyone is entitled to their own opinions. He also maintained that he still considered her a part of his family despite the differences. Ameesha, on her part, opened up about their creative differences during a chat session on X, and said she would only agree to Gadar 3 if she was super excited about the script the way she was with the first film, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. In a conversation with Maniesh Paul on his podcast, the actress further claimed that the climax sequence of Gadar 3 had been shot without her, but she preferred to let bygones be bygones. At the same time, she emphasised that she would only sign the third instalment if proper paperwork and contracts were in place.

Now, in an interview with News 18, Anil Sharma revealed that things have settled down between them. “My equation with Ameesha is great now. Waqt ke saath saath sab cheezein sahi ho jaati hai. Abhi sab badhiya hai!” he said. However, reports suggest that Ameesha has made it clear that she will only return if Tara and Sakeena’s love story forms an essential part of the narrative. When quizzed if she will definitely be seen in the next film, Anil replied, “Sakeena and Tara are an integral part of Gadar. But we’ll discuss more about her character before the release of Gadar 3.”

Is Gadar 3 In Works?

On the other hand, the director confirmed that the script for Gadar 3 is ready and reassured fans that they won’t have to wait another two decades. “Gadar 3 will definitely get made. We’ve already made a commitment to the audience in the last scene of Gadar 2 where Utkarsh’s (Sharma) character Jeete is told that he’s worthy of joining the army. We ended the film with the message – to be continued,” he explained. He further revealed that the movie is expected to go on floors within the next two years. “But making Gadar 3 will take some time but the audience can be assured that it won’t take another 20 years (laughs). We’re hoping to take it to the floors in the next two years. We’ve already worked on the script. It will focus on the stories of Tara and Jeete.”
