Legendary actor Dharmendra, who passed away on November 24, 2025, leaving a void in Hindi cinema, has been conferred with the prestigious  Padma Vibhushan posthumously. The list of Padma Awards 2026 winners was announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Sunday, the eve of India's Republic Day. Among other film artists, Dharmendra's name was recognised for his immense contribution to Hindi cinema. Following the announcement, his wife, veteran actress Hema Malini, expressed immense pride and called it a proud moment as his contribution was recognised.

Hema Malini Reacts To Dharmendra’s Padma Vibhushan Honour

Taking to X, Hema Malini dropped a portrait of the late actor along with a note that read, "So so proud that the govt has recognised Dharam ji’s immense contribution to the film industry by bestowing on him the prestigious Padma Vibhushan award."

Soon after her post was uploaded, many fans flooded the comments section.

One user wrote, "Well deserved," while another user commented, "Dharam ji’s impact on Indian cinema spans generations. A proud and deserving moment." Another comment read, "Truly a well-deserved honor! Dharmendra Ji is a legend whose contribution to Indian cinema is incomparable."

About Dharmendra's Legacy In Hindi Cinema

Born on December 8, 1935, as Dharmendra Kewal Krishan Deol, in Nasrali, a village in Ludhiana district, to a Punjabi family. Drawn by his love for cinema since childhood, he moved to Mumbai and rose to stardom in the 1960s-70s following his debut in the 1960 Hindi romantic drama Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere.

Fondly called the He-Man of Bollywood for his strong screen presence, Dharmendra's illustrious career spanned over six decades. The veteran actor has delivered memorable performances in films like Phool Aur Patthar, Anokhi Ada, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Sholay, Pratigya, Dharam Veer, Chupke Chupke, Satyamev Jayate and several others. In recent years, he appeared in films such as Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas, Apne and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. Dharmendra's last film, Ikkis, was released in theatres in early January 2026, leaving fans emotional with his final appearance on the big screen.
