Homebound: India is hoping for global recognition as Homebound has been officially entered to compete for the Best International Feature category at the 98th Academy Awards. Neeraj Ghaywan’s directorial is one of the most awaited films that the audience is looking forward to, especially for its storytelling, extraordinary performances and cinematic exposure. The movie earlier had its world premiere in the Un Certain Regard section of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival on 21st May. After which, it had a huge positive reception from the critics. If you are the one who is waiting for the movie, then here are all the details about Homebound.

What Is The Plot Of Homebound?

The movie is set against the backdrop of a small North Indian village, where two lifelong best friends, Shoaib (Ishaan Khatter), a Muslim and Chandan (Vishal Jethwa), a Dalit, dream of escaping from poverty and discrimination by securing government jobs. They wanted to become police trainees, which would grant them dignity and protect them from bias. But their journey takes a certain turn after an entire year passes without any response to their applications. In one, Shohaib goes through financial struggles while Chandan hopes to give a better life to his mother and also develops feelings for Sudha (lower caste student from college). It focuses on their friendship and struggles in their bond and career.

The movie stars Vishal Jethwa as Chandan Kumar, Ishaan Khatter as Mohammed Shoaib Ali, Janhvi Kapoor as Sudha Bharti, Reem Shaikh as Opposite Ishaan Khatter, Harshika Parmar as Vaishali (Chandan's sister), Shalini Vatsa as Phool (Chandan's mother), Chandan K Anand as Haroon Nawaz, Yogendra Vikram Singh as Arjun Mishra, Pankaj Dubey as Shoaib's father, Shreedhar Dubey as Vikas Tripathi.

Homebound has been directed by Neeraj Ghaywan and produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta and Somen Mishra. The movie is based on A Friendship, a Pandemic and a Death Beside the Highway by Basharat Peer. Pratik Shah has done the cinematography of the film.

When Is Homebound Releasing In Theatres?

The movie is slated to hit the silver screens on September 26, 2025.
