Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar is currently enjoying the success of his latest movie Jolly LLb 3. The Housefull 5 actor is reportedly all set to star in the Hindi remake of the Telugu blockbuster Sankranthiki Vasthunam, which originally featured Venkatesh Daggubati in the lead role. The Telugu movie directed by Anil Ravipudi, was released in January 2025 and became one of the biggest box office hits of the year, earning over Rs 280 crore worldwide.
According to reports, Akshay Kumar has loved the Telugu version and immediately showed interest in doing the remake after watching it. Although an official announcement is yet to be made, reports suggest that Dil Raju, who produced the original film, will also back the Hindi version under the Sri Venkateswara Creations banner. The Hindi remake will reportedly be directed by Anees Bazmee, known for blockbuster comedies like Welcome, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, and Ready. Bazmee has previously adapted a Telugu hit for Hindi audiences, having directed Ready starring Salman Khan. He is said to be keen on retaining the soul of the original while tailoring it to suit Bollywood sensibilities.

Reports further state that casting for the two female leads is currently underway. Meenakshi Chaudhary and Aishwarya Rajesh are being considered for the roles, though nothing has been confirmed yet. Filming is expected to begin in early 2026, once Akshay wraps up his ongoing projects. But according to latest update, Akshay Kumar is not doing any such film. According to a report in Pinkvilla, “Akshay has multiple films lined up, including Haiwaan, Bhagam Bhaag 2, Welcome To The Jungle, and Hera Pheri 3, along with a couple of other projects that are being kept under wraps. He had seen the Venkatesh film a while back as a cinema lover, but he’s not doing the Hindi remake. In fact, he has been meeting Anees Bazmee for another collaboration.”
About Sankranthiki Vasthuman Movie
Sankranthiki Vasthunam is described as a triangular crime entertainer, which is a blend of family drama, dark humour, and emotional storytelling, typical of Ravipudi’s filmmaking style. The plot follows an Indian CEO of a global tech company who gets kidnapped by a local gang, leading to a dramatic rescue mission headed by a suspended police officer, YD Raju (played by Venkatesh in the original). The story further intensifies when Raju’s ex-girlfriend becomes involved, adding a complex emotional layer to the high-stakes crime plot.
