Rishab Shetty's Kantara Chapter 1 has been breaking records since the day of its release. The film is set in pre-colonial coastal Karnataka and dives into the ancient origins of the Buta Kola ritual, expanding on the lore from the 2022 film. It blends folklore, spirituality and action, continuing the exploration of humanity's connection with nature and the divine. However, in a new development Kantara has now become the highest-grossing multi-part series in South Indian cinema. Earlier, the records were help by KGF and Baahubali.
Despite being produced on a modest budget of Rs 16 crore, Kantara Chapter 1 has collected over Rs 300 crore. The recently released Kantara Chapter 1 is also a major hit. The two films together have raked in a staggering 558 per cent profit, showcasing the franchise's massive success. They are closely followed by other box office giants, the KGF and Baahubali series, which have set equally impressive records.
