Popular actress Keerthy Suresh recently shared her views on the ongoing 8-hour shift demand debate in the industry. The actress came in support of the fixed hour timings and explained how irregular schedules are in different industries. She further stated that the long-hour shifts led to disturbance in sleep patterns. Keerthy went on to say that sleep is a big problem, as she gave an example of the crew who get to sleep for only two hours. She said that there is a reason why humans should work for 8 hours a day. However, Keerthy stated that she works in all kinds of shifts.

At an event, Keerthy Suresh said, “For me personally, I will work both ways, but let me tell you the general scenario, what happens in a day for an actor. We all say 9 to 6, but I don’t know if we all understand what goes on behind this 9 to 6. When you say 9 to 6, at 9 we have to be ready with makeup. That means we have to be on sets at 7.30, which means we have to leave by 6.30, for which we have to wake up at 5.30 in the morning.”

She continued, “It differs between industries. In Tamil and Telugu, there is a standard 9 to 6 shift. If for certain important scenes in particular locations, they call for a 9 to 9 shift. But in Malayalam and Hindi, it is 12 hours. I have tried to analyse the differences myself. In Malayalam, they don’t have breaks at all; they work on a continuous schedule.”

“I have so many friends who work there, lots of assistant directors, and they say how difficult it is. They just sleep three to four hours, and in Kerala, I think the light men only sleep for two hours. So sleep is a big problem. The way we say food is important and working out is important. Similarly, sleep is also very important. So this is the scenario - I will work both shifts, but generally there is a reason why they say a human should work for eight hours a day,” she added.
