The much awaited biopic of legendary pop star Michael Jackson, Michael, might not release in theatres until 2026, as per Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer. As per a report by People magazine, during the studio’s Q4 2025 earnings, Jon addressed the timeline for the movie’s release. According to the report, John said, “In regard to our Michael Jackson biopic, we’re excited about the 3½ hours of amazing footage from producer Graham King and director Antoine Fuqua, and we will be announcing a definitive release strategy & timing in the next few weeks.” 

Jon added, “Which will impact fiscal ’26 financial results but will bolster an already strong fiscal ’27 slate.” As the Lionsgate’s fiscal year ends on March 31, 2026, Michael Jackson’s biopic is likely to happen until at least April 26. 

Michael was originally slated to release in theatres on April 18, 2025. The film was later postponed to October 3, 2025. Now, as per the recent reports, the biopic might release post March 2026. 

Michael, features Jackson’s nephew Jaafar Jackson in the lead role. Coleman Domingo and Nia Long is set to portray his parents, Joe and Katherine Jackson. Miles Teller will play the role of John Branca, the pop star’s estate’s longtime attorney. It has been directed by Antoine Fuqua and produced by Graham King. The principal photography was wrapped up in May 2024. There was no footage shown in CinemaCon 2024. As per reports, Lionsgate is set to announce a final release strategy of the film in some time. 

While sharing a post from the BTS of Michael, Jaafar Jackson wrote on Instagram “I’m humbled and honored to bring my Uncle Michael’s story to life. To all the fans all over the world, I’ll see you soon. Photo by Jourdynn Jackson.” 

Michael Jackson passed away on June 25, 2009 due to cardiac arrest which was caused by a propofol and benzodiazepine overdose. He took his last breath at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. His demise occurred in less than three weeks ahead his concert residency was due to begin in London.
