Dharmendra was one of the biggest stars in the Hindi film industry, who was considered as ‘favourite’ of many actors. His demise has created a void for his admirers. As tributes poured in, fans are revisiting some of his old stories that proved his legacy. One among them was when Amitabh Bachchan shared that Jaya Bachchan has a great admiration for his Guddi co-star, Dharmendra. He shared that the actress considered him the most handsome man and was her favourite actor.

On Kaun Banega Crorepati, 2024, Aamir Khan asked Amitabh Bachchan which hero’s name ever bothered him when Jaya shot with them. Amitabh said, “On the very first day, she said that Dharmendra is my favourite. She said that ‘there is no man more handsome than him in our industry’.”

This was not the first time Jaya Bachchan's affection for Dharmendra was revealed in public. In 2007, during an episode of Koffee With Karan, Jaya Bachchan and Hema Malini talked about working with Dharmendra. Jaya Bachchan confessed, “I loved Dharmendra… You know when I saw him for the first time and I was introduced to him, there was a sofa like this. I went and hid behind it. I was so nervous! I didn’t know what to do. There was this fantastic-looking man. I still remember what he was wearing– white trousers and a white shirt and he looked like a Greek God.” She went on to joke, “I should have played Basanti! Because I loved Dharmendra.”

While reacting to it, Dharmendra also shared his views on Dharmendra’s confession. While promoting Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023), Dharmendra said, “This is her love and respect speaking. I’ve known Jaya and Amitabh for a very long time now. I still remember the fun times that we had while shooting for Sholay.”

Dharmendra passed away at the age of 89 on November 24 after suffering from health-related issues for a long time. After his demise, Amitabh penned a heartfelt tribute to his friend in his latest X post. He wrote, “T 5575 – … another valiant Giant has left us .. left the arena .. leaving behind a silence with an unbearable sound .. Dharam ji .. .. the epitome of greatness, ever linked not only for his renowned physical presence, but for the largeness of his heart, and its most endearing simplicity.”
