Jailer 2 Release Update: Rajinikanth, one of Indian cinema’s biggest icons is currently gearing up for his much-awaited sequel Jailer 2. The actor revealed the release date of the movie to the media as he returned to Chennai after completing an important shooting schedule in Kerala. The first film in the franchise, Jailer (2023), opened to mixed reviews when it released. While some sections of the audience felt it didn’t live up to expectations, the film picked up strongly at the box office. With that success, expectations for Jailer 2 are naturally sky-high.

According to reports in The Times of India, the sequel is being filmed across various locations in India. Rajinikanth was recently spotted shooting near Palakkad, Kerala, where he was greeted by thousands of fans. The actor, known for his humility, waved at the cheering crowd before resuming work. The film’s grand climax sequence was also shot during this Kerala schedule, making it one of the highlights of production so far. The Tamil movie will reportedly hit the big screens on 12th June 2026.

About Jailer 2

The sequel is directed once again by Nelson Dilipkumar, who helmed the original. Rajinikanth will reprise his powerful role as ‘Tiger’ Muthuvel Pandian, a character that struck a chord with audiences. Familiar faces including Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, and Mirnaa will also be returning to their respective roles. Adding to the excitement, Jailer 2 has roped in a fresh set of big names. SJ Suryah, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and Anna Rajan have joined the cast. The film also promises star-studded appearances, with Shiva Rajkumar and Mohanlal making cameos. Fans can also look forward to extended special appearances by Telugu legend Nandamuri Balakrishna and Bollywood veteran Mithun Chakraborty. This ensemble is expected to turn Jailer 2 into a massive spectacle on screen.

Rajinikanth’s Other Projects

Apart from Jailer 2, Rajinikanth was recently seen in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Coolie. The superstar also has another major highlight coming up as he will reunite with Kamal Haasan after a gap of 46 years. The confirmation came straight from Kamal Haasan at the NEXA SIIMA Awards 2025 in Dubai.
