Shilpa Shetty And Raj Kundra Controversy: Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty and her husband, businessman Raj Kundra, have once again found themselves at the centre of high-profile legal battles. This time, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police has booked the couple in connection with an alleged Rs 60.4 crore fraud. The case stems from their now-defunct company, Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd. The complaint, lodged by Mumbai-based businessman Deepak Kothari, alleges that between 2015 and 2023, funds were misappropriated under the guise of a loan-cum-investment deal. Their legal team, however, has dismissed the allegations, calling them an “old transaction” lacking any criminal intent.

According to filings, Kothari initially provided Rs 31.95 crore in April 2015 under a share subscription agreement, followed by an additional Rs 28.53 crore in September of that year. The funds were reportedly channelled into Best Deal TV’s bank accounts. Shilpa Shetty resigned as director in September 2016, and the company later filed for insolvency in 2017 after failing to honour financial commitments. The FIR includes charges of dishonest misappropriation, criminal breach of trust, and joint conspiracy under Indian law. Despite this, the couple's lawyers maintain no criminality was intended, and they assert full cooperation with the authorities.

The 2021 Pornography Content Saga

Prior to these fresh allegations, Raj Kundra faced a major scandal in July 2021 when he was arrested for allegedly producing and distributing pornographic content through apps like HotShots. The arrest was among the most attention-grabbing incidents involving the couple, spotlighting deep-seated issues around obscenity and digital content regulation in India. Kundra was booked under various charges related to the Information Technology Act and underwent legal proceedings.
