  • Businessman Deepak Kothari has alleged that he has given Rs 60.48 crore to Shetty-Kundra between 2015-2023 for business expansion, but they spent it on personal expenses. He gave the money in loan-cum-investment deal for the celebrity couple's now-defunct Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd.. Businessman.
  • In his complaint, he said that he came in contact with the couple through an agent, Rajesh Arya, in 2015. Back in 2015, Shilpa and Raj were the owners of Best Deal TV, an online shopping platform, and Ms Shetty held over 87 per cent of the company.
  • Kothari said that Arya sought a loan of Rs 75 crore at an annual interest rate of 12 per cent for the company, but suggested that the amount be considered as an ‘investment’ to avoid higher taxes.
  • Later, a meeting was held to sign the deal, and Arya promised to return the money on time.
  • According to the deal, Kothari transferred the first instalment of about Rs 31.95 crore in April 2025, but the tax issue persisted. A second deal was signed in September that year, and Rs 28.54 crore were transferred between July 2015 to March 2016.
  • In total, Kothari transferred Rs 60.48 crore for the deal, besides payment of Rs 3.19 lakh as stamp duty. Kothari alleged that Shetty had given a personal guarantee in April 2016, but months later, she resigned from the company’s director position.
