Omkara, directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, has been widely acclaimed as a brilliant Indian adaptation of Shakespeare's Othello. This 2006 crime drama, set against the rustic backdrop of Uttar Pradesh's political gangland, captivated audiences and critics alike with its dark themes and outstanding performances. The film's star-studded ensemble cast featured powerhouse actors, including Ajay Devgn as the titular character, Omkara, Kareena Kapoor as his love interest Dolly, Vivek Oberoi as Kesu Firangi, and Naseeruddin Shah as Tiwari Bhaisaab. However, the character that has truly stood the test of time is Ishwar 'Langda' Tyagi, portrayed by Saif Ali Khan. The enduring popularity of Langda Tyagi's character has even sparked recent reports of a potential spin-off movie.
Omkara’s makers, Kumar Mangat and Abhishek Pathak, after nearly two decades, have been reportedly planning to bring back the magic of Langda Tyagi’s character onscreen. According to a report in Pinkvilla, a source claimed, “The character of Langda Tyagi by Saif Ali Khan has stood the test of times, as it continues to find a mention in the pop culture every few months. 19 years later, based on the love given to the part from the audience, producers Kumar Mangat and Abhishek Pathak are all set for a spin-off to Langda Tyagi. The duo came across an idea that organically leads itself to the world of Omkara, and more so, Langda Tyagi.”

The report further stated that the makers have been working on the scripting of the movie, and are planning to take the film on floors in 2026. Talking about Saif Ali Khan’s return as his memorable character, the source said, “That’s a secret, which will unravel once the script is locked. Saif Ali Khan might just make a return to the world of Omkara, or the makers could rope in a young actor to play the part, making it a reboot in true sense.”
On the professional front, Saif Ali Khan has been on a roll. His most recent release was the Netflix heist thriller, Jewel Thief: The Heist Begins, where he starred alongside Jaideep Ahlawat. Looking ahead, the actor is set to reunite with Akshay Kumar in Priyadarshan's movie Haiwaan.
