Punjab is grappling with a devastating natural calamity as the rivers Sutlej, Beas and Ravi have overflowed, triggered by heavy rainfall in their catchment areas across Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir. The rising water levels have unleashed widespread flooding, causing significant disruption and hardship in multiple regions of the state. Districts such as Gurdaspur, Fazilka, Kapurthala, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Hoshiarpur and Amritsar have borne the brunt of the overflowing rivers, leaving several communities submerged and struggling to cope with the destruction.

Amid this crisis, large-scale rescue and relief operations are being carried out with urgency. The Indian Army’s Western Command has confirmed that over 5,500 civilians have already been evacuated from affected areas. In addition, around 300 personnel of paramilitary forces, who were caught in the flooding while on duty, have also been successfully rescued.
