Varanasi Trailer Out: SS Rajamouli finally revealed the long-awaited trailer of his next mega project, Varanasi, at the massive GlobeTrotter event held in Hyderabad. Starring Mahesh Babu in the lead, the film is slated for a Sankranti 2027 theatrical release and has already created a global buzz. The trailer was showcased at Ramoji Film City before more than 50,000 fans and members of the media. The most celebrated moment in the trailer is the grand reveal of Mahesh Babu as Rudhra. His introduction shows him riding a white bull and holding a giant trishul at Manikarnika Ghat, surrounded by ancient temples.

Rajamouli later shared the official trailer on X (formerly Twitter), writing, "Here you go… VARANASI to the WORLD…". The trailer begins with a glimpse of Varanasi in 512 CE before shifting to 2027 CE, where an asteroid named Shambhavi is headed towards Earth. It then travels across locations such as Antarctica, Africa, and even Lanak in 72000 BCE, offering a brief but striking visual of Hanuman. This sets the tone for a film that promises not just global exploration, but also a leap through time.

Speaking about the trailer, Rajamouli said, "I think that will the most memorable sequences from my films." Interestingly, the trailer does not show Priyanka Chopra’s character Mandakini or Prithviraj Sukumaran’s antagonist role, Kumbha, though both actors were introduced earlier through striking posters. The team also highlighted the unique scale of the event, where fans were handed themed ‘passports’, bike rallies were organised on the way to the venue, and a massive screen was set up just for the announcement. Shruti Haasan performed at the event, adding to the festive atmosphere.

Meanwhile, Varanasi film’s announcement video also hinted at a deeper mythological connection, possibly linked to the Ramayana. It features an asteroid crashing on Earth and scenes unfolding across centuries, with the words #GlobeTrotter and #TimeTrotter appearing at the end. The final visual shows Mahesh as Rudhra, blood-stained, holding a trisulam and riding a bull as temple spires rise behind him. This confirms that Varanasi is not only an action-adventure film but also a time-travel saga with spiritual undertones. Despite conducting the film’s puja ceremony in January, Rajamouli kept almost all details under strict wraps. Unlike his earlier films, he avoided organising a synopsis-based press meet. The film has been shot across Kenya, Odisha, and Hyderabad, although several crucial details leaked during production.

On the other hand, Varanasi is Rajamouli’s most ambitious IMAX project since RRR, which won an Oscar for Naatu Naatu. Mahesh Babu leads the film, with Priyanka Chopra as Mandakini and Prithviraj Sukumaran as Kumbha. The huge GlobeTrotter event confirmed weeks of speculation that the film’s temporary title SSMB29-GlobeTrotter would finally be changed to Varanasi. With its combination of mythology, time travel, large-scale visuals, and Rajamouli’s signature storytelling, the film is expected to be one of India’s biggest cinematic events. As fans continue to share leaked clips and pictures from the event, the excitement surrounding Varanasi shows no sign of slowing down.
