Earlier in a a session at the International Indian Film Festival, Nagarjuna fondly talked about his father’s humble background. “He came from a very humble family, a farmer's family,” the actor added. He described that his family upbringing happened in a small village near Madras (now Chennai) where it didn’t have any basic amenities like electricity. So, all of this led to him becoming an actor.” Narjuna added.
ANR began his career in acting while playing a female role at the age of 15, as women were not allowed to act at that time. Nagarjuna said, “We still have a photograph of him dressed as a girl. He looked exactly like my older sister.”

He then called him and asked if he would like to act, and the rest is history.” But ANR’s acting career was not smooth rather it was tough for him. Nagarjuna said, “People started making fun of him, and that dejected him. He told me he went to Marina Beach in Chennai, waist-deep in water, and thought of ending his life. But then he decided he needed to prove himself.”
