Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was initially selected for the 2005 movie, Mr and Mrs Smith, according to a DNA news source. The female spy character in the Hollywood biggie had to execute certain daring and private acts, but she was afraid to do so. As a result, the actor lost the project, and Angelina Jolie, Pitt's ex-wife, was cast in its place.

Aishwarya Rai was the initial pick for the 2008 superhero movie Hancock, in which Will Smith played the lead. The Telegraph reported that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan turned down the movie because she didn't feel comfortable kissing Smith for it. Apart from this, she was unable to sign the movie because of other prior obligations. Eventually, Charlize Theron was cast in the role.

Additionally, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan turned down a part in Troy, starring Brad Pitt. The Devdas actor had disclosed the cause of the same, as per a report by the Indian Express. She said, "Films in the West and here work differently in the sense that they meet you, and then they say 'greenlit' and they lock you off for a period of time because of the insurance. The way the entire film schedule is, you are locked off, which was very new for me. You understand the impact of the (film). It is exciting because these are huge offers. But when Troy was spoken about — forget on the script level — they were saying at least six to nine months to lock off (the schedule) because it is a huge film. I had films here I was committed to. I couldn’t get myself to kick that to the curb (sic)."

Meanwhile, on the work front, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan most recently starred in Ponniyin Selvan 2, Mani Ratnam's magnum opus. The fans really like her as both Nandini and Mandakini Devi. Vikram, Karthi, Jayan Ravi, Trisha, and Sobhita Dhulipala also played important roles in the film.
