Director Anurag Basu is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Metro In Dino. The much-awaited musical romantic drama is a sequel to 2007 Life In A Metro, which starred late actor Irrfan Khan and Konkona Sen Sharma. The chemistry between the two captivated the audiences upon its release and their presence has been missed in the new chapter, which features a fresh star cast with new love stories. Ahead of the movie's release, Anurag Basu recalled his experience of working with the late actor and discussed how he convinced Irrfan Khan to take on the role in Life In A Metro.

Anurag Basu in a conversation with IANS revealed how he persuaded Irrfan for the role in Life In A Metro. He said, "I had chased Irrfan. When I narrated the story to Irrfan, he thought his role was not very meaty. I’m a very bad narrator. I couldn’t give him confidence that his role is really good."

The filmmaker added, "So, I called up Sutapa (Irrfan's wife) and I asked her to please convince him. She eventually convinced him, and when we shot the first scene with him, he was very happy. We were shooting in Juhu. Sutapa called me. The scene was half way through, she said, ‘Irrfan is very happy’. I told her, ‘He’s not telling me. He’s telling you?’ Oh. So yeah, all those memories of Irrfan are priceless."

Anurag Basu remembered how music composer Pritam wanted late singer KK to sing Alvida in Life In A Metro, which became a cult classic. In the same interview, the filmmaker stated, “Pritam really wanted KK to sing ‘Alvida’. I remember he came from Pune. A lot of memories, very fond and pleasant memories".

Life In A Metro Cast And Characters Analysis

In the 2007 movie, Irrfan played the role of Monty, a character beloved by the audience. He was seen opposite Konkona Sen as Shruti Ghosh, his love interest. Life In A Metro centres around the lives of nine people in Mumbai, navigating their lives and personal struggles. Anurag Basu's directorial blended with concepts like extramarital affairs, love, marriage and commitment issues. The romantic drama was further enhanced by KK's voice to the hit tracks Alvida and O Meri Jaan.

About Metro In Dino: The sequel to Life In A Metro stars Sara Ali Khan, Aditya Roy Kapur, Konkona Sen Sharma, Pankaj Tripathi, Anupam Kher and Neena Gupta, and Ali Fazal and Fatima Sana Shaikh. The film is backed by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Anurag Basu, and Taani Basu, it is slated to release in theatres on July 4. The film's music has been composed by Pritam.
