Shilpa Shetty’s well-known Bandra restaurant, Bastian, shut its doors on 3 September, leaving fans and celebrity regulars heartbroken. Over the years, the hotspot became one of Mumbai’s most sought-after dining destinations, often frequented by stars such as Kareena Kapoor, Kartik Aaryan, Sara Ali Khan, Ananya Panday, Tiger Shroff, and Disha Patani. Following its immense success, Shetty expanded the brand by opening Bastian At The Top in Dadar, which has also become a favourite among celebrities. On 2nd September, the actress announced the Bandra branch’s closure on Instagram, sparking curiosity over why one of Mumbai’s most iconic restaurants was shutting down.
Why Did Shilpa Shetty Shut Down Bastian Bandra?
According to IANS, the closure coincides with legal troubles surrounding Shilpa Shetty and her husband Raj Kundra. Mumbai businessman Deepak Kothari, director of Lotus Capital Financial Services, has filed a fraud case against the couple, alleging they defrauded him of more than ₹60 crore in a loan-cum-investment deal linked to their now-defunct company, Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd. The alleged transactions are said to have taken place between 2015 and 2023. Kothari claimed that the couple borrowed money under the pretext of expanding their business but instead diverted the funds for personal use. Following the complaint, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) began investigating the matter. However, Shetty and Kundra’s lawyer, Prashant Patil, has denied all allegations, stating that the issue had already been adjudicated. In his official statement to the Times of India, Patil said, “My clients have been informed by certain segments of electronic and print media that an alleged case has been registered against them at the Economic Offences Wing, Mumbai. At the outset, my clients deny all the allegations, which are purely civil in nature and have already been adjudicated by the NCLT Mumbai on 04/10/2024.” While speculation suggests the legal dispute may have influenced the restaurant’s closure, the official reason behind shutting Bastian Bandra has not been confirmed.

Meanwhile, Bastian Mumbai’s official page also shared the update with the caption, “andra was where Bastian’s journey began, and it will always remain close to us. As we evolve, it feels right to honour the depth of South Indian cuisine through Ammakai, while also bringing the energy and indulgence of Bastian to Juhu in a fresh new way. We’re closing one chapter, but two new stories are waiting to be written, and we can’t wait to welcome you into them. Warm regards, Ranjit Bindra Founder & CEO, Bastian Hospitality Pvt. Ltd.” Although Bandra has lost one of its star-studded destinations, Shetty’s Dadar outlet, Bastian At The Top, continues to flourish, ensuring the brand remains part of Mumbai’s culinary and celebrity scene.
