On Monday, three Assamese expatriates from Singapore, Jolongsat Narzary, Siddhartha Bora and Parikshit Sarma, arrived at the CID office in Guwahati. The trio recorded their statements before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in connection with the death of popular singer Zubeen Garg. It was confirmed by SIT Chief and Special DGP (CID) Munna Prasad Gupta, revealing that the interrogation is currently underway.
Munna Prasad said, "Earlier, one Assamese expatriate from Singapore, Rupkamal Kalita, provided his statement before the SIT. Today, three more have come, and by this evening, one more is likely to come. Tomorrow, a few others are also likely to come."
We have received the viscera report as well as the report from the expert committee of doctors. We will submit the reports before the court. We are trying to reach a logical conclusion soon," Gupta said.
The SIT Chief further mentioned that they have sent a Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) request to Singapore through the Ministry of Home Affairs. "We are waiting for permission from the Singapore authorities. Our team is ready to leave for Singapore. We seek permission from the Singapore authorities. We also seek facts from the authorities of Singapore," he said.
Zubeen Garg, 52, died on September 19 in Singapore while performing at the North East India Festival. His death, reportedly while swimming, has sparked speculation about foul play due to unanswered questions. The incident shocked Assam and the Assamese diaspora, triggering widespread grief and calls for a thorough investigation.

The CID team has arrested two of Zubeen Garg's personal security officers, bringing the total arrests to five. Those already in custody include Zubeen's cousin Sandipan Garg, manager Siddhartha Sharma, musician Shekharjyoti Goswami, singer Amritprava Mahanta and Shyamkanu Mahanta. Over 60 FIRs were filed across the state, prompting the Assam CM to direct the DGP to consolidate the cases and hand over the investigation to the CID, which formed the SIT.
