The Girlfriend OTT Release: Rashmika Mandanna’s latest Telugu romantic drama The Girlfriend released in cinemas on 7th November and has continued to perform well even after its opening week. Directed by Rahul Ravindran, the film also stars Dheekshith Shetty and Anu Emmanuel in key roles. With strong word-of-mouth and appreciation for its emotional storyline, audiences are still visiting theatres in good numbers. Many fans are now looking forward to its digital release after critics praised the film for its narrative and performances. 

According to reports, Netflix has secured the digital rights to The Girlfriend, and the film is expected to make its OTT debut around 11th December 2025. Trade reports claim the platform has acquired the film for around Rs 14 crore, which is considered a fair deal based on the cast and production budget. The film has already grossed nearly Rs 30 crore worldwide and had an impressive start, collecting Rs 8.85 crore in the first five days. On its sixth day, the film recorded an overall occupancy of 18.85% across the Telugu states, with evening and night shows performing particularly well. Fans who missed the theatrical run now have a chance to enjoy the romance-drama from home once it begins streaming.

Meanwhile, Rashmika Mandanna’s performance has been widely praised, with many calling it the strongest of her career. Critics said her portrayal of Bhooma, a young woman trapped in a controlling relationship, was both powerful and emotionally layered. Audiences echoed this sentiment, describing the performance as nuanced and heartfelt. The film marks Rashmika’s first female-centric project after becoming a major star, and its success has challenged the belief that women-led films struggle in Tollywood. Vijay Deverakonda, who has supported Rashmika publicly, recently praised her growth and called her an amazing woman, saying “I feel so proud”, while also joining her in celebrating the film’s success. During a promotional event, producer Dheeraj Mogilineni shared that Rashmika worked on the project without taking any payment and added that she would accept her remuneration only after the film’s release.

The Girlfriend follows the story of Bhooma Devi, played by Rashmika Mandanna, an aspiring writer who moves to Ramalingaiah Arts & Science College in Hyderabad to pursue her Master’s degree in literature. The film explores her emotional journey, her relationships and the challenges she faces along the way. With its blend of romance, drama and sensitive storytelling, the film resonated strongly with young audiences.
