Retro, the latest addition to Tamil cinema starring Suriya and Pooja Hegde, is slowly making its mark at the box office since its release on May 1. So far, the movie has been underperforming since its opening day. However, collections are gradually increasing. Not only that, but the movie is also receiving praise, especially for Suriya and Pooja's performances. The most recent celebrity to review Retro is superstar Rajinikanth.

Rajinikanth Reviews Suriya Starrer Retro

Director Karthik Subbaraj quoted the review of the movie by Rajinikanth on his X handle stating that he loved and called Suriya’s performance in it “super". His post read, "Thalaivar watched #Retro & he Loved it.... Exact words of Thalaivar...... "What an effort by the whole team.... Suriya performance Super.... Last 40 minutes of the film Superb... Laughter touch is Fantastic....God bless" Am flying now.....Love you Thalaivaaa."

Karthik Subbaraj and Rajinikanth collaborated earlier in the 2019 film Petta. Recently, the filmmaker shared his desire to show Retro movie to the superstar.

Retro has opened to positive and mixed reviews in the theatres. The film released on May 1 faced a clash with Nani's HIT 3 and Tourist Family.

Retro is set against a backdrop of themes of violence, love, self-discovery and a web of danger, stars Suriya as Paarivel Paari Kannan, a gangster, who is trying to move on from the world of violence with the help of his wife Rukmini Rukku, played by Pooja Hegde. But his past fallout hampers his present. The story unfolds various themes with a blend of action and romance. Suriya's action-packed performance has impressed the audiences and critics alike. The movie is back by Kaarthekeyen Santhanam, Jyotika, and Suriya. The movie also starred Baby Aavni, Joju George, Jayaram, Karunakaran, Nassar, Prakash Raj, and Sujith Shankar in key roles alongside Suriya and Pooja. The music score to this gripping story was given by Santhosh Narayanan.
