In the recent episode of Koffee With Karan Season 8, cousins Kajol and Rani Mukerji made an appearance, delving into various topics and sharing anecdotes from their lives. They also touched upon a phase in the 2000s when they weren't on speaking terms. Fans were thrilled to witness the 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' reunion. Kajol stunned in a brown long dress while Rani looked lovely in a neon short dress. The camaraderie between the trio—Rani, Kajol, and Karan—was a delightful highlight.
In a candid moment on Karan Johar's celebrity chat show, Rani shared that during her early career phase, she was closer to Aishwarya Rai than her cousin and co-star Kajol, who added that the distance between them had been organic, only recently bridged.
Why an 'organic distance'?
As Karan Johar expressed his confusion about their lack of communication, Kajol explained it as an organic distance that developed naturally due to their individual career paths. Host KJo said he would wonder 'what kind of family is this' that they don't even talk to each other. To this, Kajol replied, "Nothing really like that. It was just an organic distance. Where work is concerned it’s more that both of us liked where we were."
Rani added, "Because I have known her as a kid and she was Kajol didi for me and it was a bit strange. I guess when you grow apart you really don’t know the reason why because you don’t meet that often because Kajol didi used to stay in town and we were in Juhu. Me and Tanisha were much closer and we are still. But Kajol didi was always closer to the boys of the family. So, it was a bit strange."

How they became friends?
After Karan asked how they finally ended up building up their relationship, Rani Mukerji mentioned that their relationship evolved more significantly after their fathers passed away. Kajol elaborated, highlighting how family tragedies often bring people closer together. "More after our dads passed away," Rani said, to this, Kajol added, "It’s just an organic thing."
"As families when you lose your loved ones. I was close to Kajol’s dad (Shomu Mukerjee). When you go through tough times and losses, that’s when everybody comes closer," Rani concluded.
Kajol and Rani Mukerji's improved relationship has been evident lately. They were seen together at Durga Puja pandals in Mumbai, engaging in conversations and posing for pictures.
