The 2016 romantic drama Sanam Teri Kasam, starring Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane, has become a beloved film over the years. Despite an underwhelming box office performance during its initial release, the film later gained immense popularity on streaming platforms. Recently, it was re-released in theatres, receiving an overwhelming response from fans. But did you know that Mawra Hocane wasn’t the makers’ first choice? In fact, over 200 girls auditioned for the role before she was finalized.

A surprising reason played a key role in Mawra Hocane landing the part of Saru. In a viral video, the actress revealed that around 215 girls auditioned for the role, but none of them looked visually appealing while crying—a crucial requirement for the character, as the film featured several emotional scenes. Mawra, however, managed to maintain grace even in tearful moments, which ultimately secured her the role. Her heartfelt performance and on-screen chemistry with Harshvardhan Rane became one of the film’s biggest highlights.

As Sanam Teri Kasam returned to theatres on February 7, 2025, fans were in for another surprise. Just two days earlier, on February 5, Mawra Hocane tied the knot with Pakistani actor Amir Gilani in an intimate ceremony. The actress shared glimpses of her dreamy wedding on Instagram, and the pictures quickly went viral, delighting fans.

Exciting news for fans of Sanam Teri Kasam! A sequel to the film is in development, with Harshvardhan Rane confirmed to reprise his role. The announcement was made on September 10, 2024, through an Instagram post featuring Rane alongside producer Deepak Mukut. However, details about the female lead remain unknown. There has been no official confirmation regarding Mawra Hocane’s return, and her involvement in the sequel seems unlikely at this point.
