The Tamil Nadu Multiplex Association has declared that all future screenings of the controversial film The Kerala Story will be cancelled in the state. The association stated that the decision was made due to poor public reception and concerns about potential law and order problems. People who had previously booked tickets for the film will be refunded their money.

It is worth noting that the independent cinemas in the region had already opted out of showing The Kerala Story, citing concerns about potential law and order problems. Following the release of the movie, last Friday, several protests were staged against its Islamophobic content.

The most recent demonstration was held by members of the Naam Tamilar Katchi outside a multiplex in Chennai's Anna Nagar area. The party's leader, Seeman, demanded a complete prohibition on the film, asserting that it could create religious discord.

The release of The Kerala Story was opposed by The Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam and Social Democratic Party of India in Coimbatore. The film was only being shown in three multiplexes in the district, and heavy security was put in place outside the cinemas. Every visitor to the mall was searched thoroughly. The police arrested over 100 protestors during the demonstrations. In Salem, protests disrupted the screening and as a result, all the shows were cancelled.

It appears that the The Kerala Story will not be screened anymore in the state following the decision made by the Tamil Nadu Multiplex Association. The film has been the subject of controversy since the release of its teaser, which made unverified claims that 32,000 women from Kerala had joined the terrorist organisation ISIS. The claims were widely criticised, and the trailer was later modified to describe the film as the story of three young women from Kerala.

Numerous screenings of the film in Kerala have also been cancelled following Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's statement that it is a clear propaganda of the Sangh Parivar, which alienates Muslims and depicts the state as a hub of terrorism.
