Thangalaan Box Office Collection Day 5: Starring Chiyaan Vikram in the lead, the film debuted in theaters worldwide on August 15, coinciding with Independence Day. The film, which had generated considerable excitement before its release, made a strong impression with ₹26 crore in earnings, worldwide, on its opening day. Despite a drop in revenue on August 16, the film rebounded over the weekend. Praised for its compelling performances, engaging storyline, and direction, Thangalaan delves into the rich history of the Kolar Gold Fields (KFG).

Even on a working Monday, the film has continued to perform strongly. On its fifth day, Thangalaan garnered approximately ₹2.00 crore in India net, pushing its total earnings to ₹31.45 crore. The film's overall Tamil occupancy on Monday, August 19, 2024, was 18.47%, with specific show timings showing Morning at 13.77%, Afternoon at 19.21%, Evening at 18.50%, and Night at 22.41%.

Thangalaan has firmly established itself as one of the top five highest-grossing films in Chiyaan Vikram’s career, and it looks set to enhance its significance as a major success for the esteemed actor.

Directed by Pa Ranjith, Thangalaan is a historical drama set in the pre-Independence era, delving into the rich history of the Kolar Gold Fields (KGF). The film stars Chiyaan Vikram, alongside Malavika Mohanan, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Pasupathy, Daniel Caltagirone, and Hari Krishnan in prominent roles. Noteworthy for its evocative background score by GV Prakash Kumar, the film's music enhances Vikram's compelling performance.

Talking about the movie, director Pa Ranjith told HT, "It’s an interesting film that takes place during the colonial period. It’s set in the KGF gold mines and about the freedom the oppressed people, who worked in the mines, wanted. Was their leader able to fulfill their wishes? The story revolves around this."
