Two months post-release, Thangalaan's OTT arrival remains elusive, sparking speculation about financial hurdles delaying its digital debut. Addressing the rumors, producer Gnanavel Raja took to X (formerly Twitter) to provide clarity on the film's OTT release status, shedding light on the reasons behind the prolonged delay.
Gnanavel Raja wrote on X, “They (Netflix) scheduled the release for Deepavali (Diwali). They wanted a festival release since Thangalaan is a big film. However, our favorite YouTubers are claiming that there are some issues for Thangalaan. They have a knack for claiming that there is an issue, when in reality there isn’t any.”
Accordinf to Filmibeat, following its successful theatrical run, the film is set to make its highly anticipated OTT debut on Netflix on October 31.
Thangalaan, starring Chiyaan Vikram and directed by Pa. Ranjith, failed to meet expectations globally despite its hefty ₹135-crore budget. Delays and poor marketing dampened excitement, leading to moderate box-office performance. Now, the film seeks new life on Netflix.Speculation is rife that Netflix may renege on its ₹35-crore deal for Thangalaan, but the streaming platform has yet to confirm or deny the rumours.
