Toxic Teaser: Yash’s upcoming film Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups has landed in legal trouble soon after the release of its first teaser. The teaser, which was unveiled on the actor’s 40th birthday earlier this month, has sparked controversy over its visual content, with multiple complaints now filed against it. Social activist Dinesh Kallahalli has filed a formal complaint with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), objecting to what he described as “obscene, sexually explicit and morally offensive scenes” in the teaser. The complaint has been addressed to CBFC chairperson Prasoon Joshi.

According to the complaint, the teaser includes “scenes that are grossly obscene, sexually explicit, and vulgar in nature.” Kallahalli further stated that the teaser is being circulated freely on social media platforms without any age restrictions. “The said trailer is being widely circulated on various social media platforms without any effective restriction, thereby exposing the general public, including minors and young persons, to content that is legally impermissible and socially harmful,” he said. The complaint also argues that the teaser does not qualify for protection under freedom of speech and expression. It states, “The content displayed in the trailer of ‘TOXIC’ clearly exceeds these constitutional limits and therefore does not merit any constitutional protection. The Hon'ble Supreme Court of India has consistently held that obscenity and sexually explicit material are not protected forms of expression.”

Kallahalli cited provisions under the Cinematograph Act, 1952, and CBFC guidelines, which require films and promotional material to meet “standards of decency, morality, and social responsibility.” He urged the CBFC to review the teaser, remove the objectionable scenes, restrict its circulation, and take appropriate action against the makers of the film. “The present representation deserves urgent consideration, as the issue involved concerns public morality, protection of minors, and the rule of law,” the complaint added.

Karnataka Women’s Commission Seeks Action

In a separate development, the Aam Aadmi Party’s Women’s Wing has also raised objections to the teaser. The party submitted a complaint to the Karnataka State Women’s Commission, alleging that the visuals negatively impact women and children and hurt Kannada cultural values. The Women’s Wing claimed the teaser was released without age warnings, which compromises the dignity of women. Following this, the Women’s Commission wrote to the CBFC, asking it to examine the teaser and submit a report on the action taken. One particular scene from the teaser, showing Yash alongside a woman inside a car in a dark, stylised setting, has drawn sharp criticism. While some netizens accused the film of objectifying women, others defended the creative choice.

Directed by Geetu Mohandas and produced by KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations, the film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on March 19, 2026, where it will clash with Dhurandhar Part 2.

The makers of Toxic are yet to issue an official response to the complaints.
