Dhanush’s latest social-drama film, Vaathi/Sir continues to win over the audiences. The film, which released theatrically on February 17, 2023, has so far managed to cross the Rs 60 crore mark at the worldwide box-office.
Starring Dhanush and Samyuktha in the lead roles, Vaathi also stars P. Sai Kumar, Tanikella Bharani, Samuthirakani and Hyper Aadi in pivotal roles. The film has been directed by Venky Atluri and was shot and released in both Tamil and Telugu languages.
Vaathi collected approximately Rs 2.8 crore in Tamil and Telugu languages on Day 7 of its release, taking its overall total in India to Rs 46.23 crore. The film has so far collected Rs 66.15 crore worldwide.
Meanwhile, it has also been reported that Sir has already made a whopping profit of more than 220% within its first 4 days of release in Telugu language. According to a report in Tracktollywood.com, the film’s theatrical rights are valued at 5 crores in Telugu states, while the film already earned 16 crores (nett) from the Telugu version in just 4 days. The film will reportedly emerge as a blockbuster in Telugu states.
Despite facing a tough clash at the box-office against Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan and Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantamania, Dhanush’s Vaathi managed to hold strong at the box-office.
Recently, veteran Tamil actor and filmmaker Bharathiraja praised Dhanush’s Vaathi and called it a must-watch. A report in Indian Express released a press statement, where the actor shared why Vaathi has a special place in his heart.
“In my film career, I’ve seen a lot of milestones. A few things have stunned me. One such film is Vaathi/Sir. I’m watching a lot of films, this is a special one, as I’m part of it. Films should be useful to people, more than entertainment. Vaathi stresses the importance of education,” Bharathiraja was quoted as saying.
“I am just back from the movie, the way the audience enjoys the film is great. It’s one of the best films in recent times. Sir is a must-watch in theatres,” said Bharathiraja according to the press statement.
