On the fourth anniversary of Irrfan Khan's passing, his wife and screenwriter Sutapa Sikdar shared a touching tribute on Instagram. In an imaginary dialogue, Sutapa envisioned a conversation she might have had with Irrfan if he were still alive, detailing potential collaborations and projects he would have been interested in.
Sutapa imagined that Irrfan would have been eager to work with Diljit Dosanjh, expressing his admiration for the actor's performance in Imtiaz Ali's musical biopic Amar Singh Chamkila. She wrote that Irrfan would have immediately called Dinesh Vijan, the producer of his films Hindi Medium and Angrezi Medium, to develop a project with Diljit.
In her imagined conversation, Sutapa also pictured Irrfan listening to the film's music, composed by AR Rahman, and praising Irshad Kamil's lyrics, particularly in the climactic song Vida Karo. She even suggested that Irrfan might have considered reprising his role as a Sardar from Anup Singh's Qissa to work alongside Diljit in a film.
Additionally, Sutapa playfully suggested that if "Bollywood doesn’t mend its way," Irrfan would have ventured into Malayalam cinema. She mentioned that he would have referenced a director known for helming Fahadh Faasil movies and would have instructed his manager to make it happen.

Reflecting on her time with Irrfan, Sutapa expressed a mix of emotions, including guilt, sadness, fear, hopelessness, and helplessness. She highlighted that although it has been four years since Irrfan's passing, she had known him since 1984, which means she had spent 36 years with him, more than without him.
Irrfan Khan's unexpected demise in 2020 left a void in the film industry and in the hearts of his fans. Sutapa's poignant tribute not only honoured his memory but also shed light on the kind of person and artist he was, imagining the creative projects he might have pursued had he been given more time.
