IU and Park Bo Gum are set to star in the upcoming Netflix Kdrama When Life Gives You Tangerines, which has recently revealed its unique release strategy, drawing considerable attention from fans. The series will make its debut on March 7, 2025 and will be available for streaming worldwide on Netflix.

When Life Gives You Tangerines unfolds the lives of Ae Sun and Gwan Sik, two contrasting characters navigating their way through the vibrant seasons of Jeju Island. IU plays the feisty and determined Ae Sun, while Park Bo Gum portrays Gwan Sik, a quiet yet steadfast companion.

The Kdrama is penned by acclaimed writer Lim Sang Chun, known for hits like Fight My Way and When the Camellia Blooms and is directed by Kim Won Seok, celebrated for works such as Misaeng, Signal and My Mister.

Netflix has planned a distinctive release format for the drama, aligning with its seasonal theme. The series is divided into four acts—spring, summer, fall, and winter—mirroring the changing landscapes of Jeju Island. Each act will consist of four episodes, with a total of 16 episodes in the series.

Starting from March 7, new episodes will be released every Friday, with four episodes dropping each week until March 28. This approach allows viewers to savour the story in weekly portions, enhancing the thematic experience of the changing seasons.

As per Soompi, Netflix’s Senior Director, Bae Jong Byung, elaborated on the decision, stating, “Given the story’s structure in four acts, we collaborated with the creators to find the best way to present it. We determined that releasing four episodes per week over four weeks would provide an optimal experience for viewers, allowing them to fully engage with the narrative.”

The first still from the drama offers a glimpse into the dynamics between Ae Sun and Gwan Sik. The image shows Ae Sun, in her school uniform, with a hint of defiance in her eyes, while Gwan Sik stands quietly beside her. Their contrasting energies, with Ae Sun's fiery spirit and Gwan Sik's calm resolve, promise a compelling tale of resilience and companionship.

Director Kim Won Seok shared insights into the heart of the drama, revealing that it portrays the struggles and dreams of a young woman hampered by poverty and societal limitations but who rises above them. Gwan Sik, as her unwavering support, adds depth to their shared journey.

Expectations are high for IU and Park Bo Gum's on-screen pairing, with Director Kim hinting at an engaging chemistry that will showcase new facets of both actors. He mentioned that Park Bo Gum will present a side of himself yet unseen by audiences, while IU will bring forth her well-loved charm and more.
