Sushmita Sen, renowned as India's first Miss Universe in 1994, continues to inspire with her grace, poise, and dedication to various social causes. Recently, appeared on Rhea Chakraborty's YouTube podcast where she discussed parenting and the importance of openness with her children. She shared how she treats her kids as adults and is candid about discussing sensitive topics like sex with them. The actress also recalled a childhood incident when her parents scolded her for using the word 'sex' and for being too outspoken during an interview.
She said, "At that point, society was not as open as it is today. It was like 'haw.' Back then, everything was 'haww' to the extent that my Maa and Baba (mom and dad) had to sit me down and say, 'There's a lot riding on your shoulders, can you just try to curb a little bit of what you're saying? Why use the word 'sex' at 18 in an interview?'"
Sushmita spoke about her open-mindedness and boldness, recalling an intentional mention of the word 'sex' during an interview with Shobhaa De. She explained that her aspirations extended beyond being just 'Miss Universe' or 'the most beautiful person'; she aimed to embody a liberated and truly free human being. "I wanted to be a liberated human being, someone who is truly free. So, in that attempt, I became India's first Miss Universe."
