Yoo Yeon Seok, known for his stellar performances, has recently been at the centre of dating rumours with his When the Phone Rings co-star Chae Soo Bin. Fans of the Netflix thriller have expressed their desire for the duo to date and even tie the knot, thanks to their undeniable on-screen chemistry. In an interview, Yoo Yeon Seok addressed these rumours, shared his thoughts on their working relationship, and reflected on memorable moments from the drama.
When asked about fans’ wishes for him to marry Chae Soo Bin, Yoo Yeon Seok responded with a lighthearted yet thoughtful answer:
"As for marriage? That's not something I can decide on my own, but I appreciate the support."
Yoo Yeon Seok revealed that his initial days working with Chae Soo Bin were marked by awkwardness, as both actors needed time to warm up to each other. He explained:
"I felt awkward at first. Soobinie is extremely shy, and it took me a while to get close to her too. At the beginning of filming, I was the only one talking like a monologue, but since I had my time and we were at the same company, there were bright spots. I think she relied on me a lot. I think it’s because I bought a lot of delicious things, but I’m very thankful she followed me well."

Their journey from shyness to camaraderie mirrored the transformation of their characters in the series. Chae Soo Bin’s portrayal of a mute character initially limited their interactions, but as the story progressed, their relationship evolved into an intense romance.
The When the Phone Rings finale featured a highly praised intimate scene between their characters. Yoo Yeon Seok disclosed that he and Chae Soo Bin were deeply involved in planning the sequence, ensuring it conveyed the characters’ emotions authentically. He described the scene as their characters’ “first night,” sharing:
"Since the characters finally show their suppressed feelings for each other in the scene, I wanted it to feel genuine. We planned the shots together and even reviewed the final video. I didn’t expect such a strong reaction, especially from viewers watching abroad, but I’m glad people found it lovely and well-done."
Yoo Yeon Seok also reminisced about the unforgettable Inkigayo camera kiss scene, which left a lasting impression on him. He admitted that the proposal and subsequent kiss in the drama were particularly emotional moments for him as an actor. He said:
"It was my first time getting a proposal from a female character, so I cried. I thought, ‘So this is how it feels to cry when receiving a proposal.’ It was even more touching because Hee-joo confessed to me despite knowing my situation. I said, ‘I guess I’ve lived like this to meet someone called you.’ That line and the kissing scene are memorable."
