In a chilling incident, a man opened fire on a 17-year-old girl in Ballabhgarh, Faridabad district of Haryana, after allegedly stalking her for days. The teenager sustained two bullet injuries and has been hospitalised. Police are currently searching for the accused.

According to NDTV, the shooting occurred on Monday evening in Ballabhgarh's Shyam Colony. The girl was returning from a coaching class when the attacker, identified as Jatin Mangla, allegedly shot her. He had reportedly been stalking her and was upset after she rejected his attempts to initiate a romantic relationship.

CCTV footage shows the accused waiting for the minor. He is seen standing next to a bike and appears to be hiding something in his bag.

As the girl enters the frame, the attacker, with a gun in hand, crosses the lane and opens fire. Two girls accompanying her flee in panic. One bullet hits the 17-year-old on her shoulder, while the other grazes her abdomen. As she cries out in pain, the shooter grabs his bag and flees on his bike. Her friend, visibly shaken, runs back to help her.

Police said the weapon used has been recovered, and efforts are underway to nab Jatin Mangla.

"Preliminary inquiry reveals that the accused is known to the victim. The girl has recognised the accused. We have registered an FIR. Police and Crime Branch are searching for the accused," a police spokesperson stated.

The victim’s sister said the girl is preparing for her board exams and would return home via the same route daily.

"He was waiting for her, you can see in the CCTV footage. As soon as he saw her, he fired," she told NDTV.

She further said Jatin had been stalking her sister for a few days.

"We contacted his family. His mother pleaded with us and said he won't do it again. So we let it go. And the next day, this happens. What kind of country are we living in? This took place just a kilometre from our home."
