Despite being recognised globally as a hub for IT, automobiles, telecom, garments, and healthcare, Gurugram’s Cyber City has been waiting for a Transport Nagar for the past 23 years. Successive governments have failed to act on the long-pending project, leaving small transporters with no designated parking or loading space.
The Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) rekindled hope in 2021 when it conducted a survey and prepared a layout plan for a Transport Nagar in Sector-34, near Hero Honda Chowk. The project, first announced in 2002 with 100 acres earmarked for development, has since faced continuous neglect. Encroachment has now taken over nearly half the identified land, and the plan has once again stalled.
Due to the lack of a dedicated hub, transporters are forced to park vehicles along roadsides, green belts, and open spaces, leading to frequent traffic jams and increasing the risk of accidents. According to transport associations, the stretch from Cyber City to Manesar urgently requires at least four Transport Nagars, two in Udyog Vihar, one near Hero Honda Chowk, and one in Manesar.
While major transporters linked to companies such as Maruti Suzuki, Hero MotoCorp, and Honda have their own facilities located far from the city, smaller operators have no such space and often face police action for roadside parking.
The associations argue that the absence of even a single Transport Nagar in a globally known business district reflects administrative apathy. They claim that long-distance movement of empty trucks and containers to loading points such as Sector-18 increases fuel wastage, time loss, and overall pressure on city roads.

Transporter bodies, including the Gurugram Transporter Welfare Association and the Car Carrier Association of India, have reiterated their demand for at least four hubs to ease congestion and improve logistics efficiency.
Gurugram MLA Mukesh Sharma has said he will raise the issue prominently in the upcoming Assembly session and seek clarity on why the Sector-34 project never materialised. He expressed confidence that Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini will support the proposal, emphasising that Cyber City must be equipped with all essential infrastructure.
