Computer lab attendants working on contract in Haryana government schools have not received their salaries for the past four months, raising concerns ahead of the festive season. These employees, who earn a monthly salary of Rs 12,000 and have been serving for over 14 years, were left unpaid during Dussehra and now fear that Diwali may pass without pay.

The attendants play a crucial role in maintaining computer labs, providing basic computer education to students, and supporting all digital functions within the schools. Despite their vital contributions, their financial situation has worsened due to delayed payments.

Karamjit Sandhu, state president of the Computer Lab Attendants Welfare Association, said the Education Department last released salaries in May 2025, with payments from June onwards still pending. He added, “We have been approaching officials for the past four months, but the problem remains unresolved. The government has neither released salaries nor issued service security letters under the Service Security Act.”

Manoj Agarwal, the union’s state general secretary, expressed concern over the festive season: “Every employee needs money during this time. Our pockets are empty, and we are struggling to meet our family's needs. The situation is such that we may have to celebrate a black Diwali.”

Union officials have warned that continued neglect may force the attendants to resort to agitation if salaries and service security letters are not released promptly. Employees have appealed to the government to ensure timely payments and provide service security letters, promising stability and recognition for their long-standing service.
