THE IMMIGRATION department at the Shri Guru Ram Dass International Airport in Amritsar on Thursday detained Waris Punjab De Chief and fugitive Khalistani preacher Amritpal Singh's wife Kirandeep Kaur, who was trying to board a flight to Birmingham. She was initially questioned by the immigration officials and was later detained.

As per airport sources, Kirandeep Kaur was scheduled to travel to Birmingham in the UK by Air India Flight at 2:30 pm today. However, being a Look Out Circular (LOC) subject, she was stopped from boarding the flight when she reported to the immigration counters. She was detained by immigration officials.

Earlier Police sources said that she was stopped by Immigration Department officials from boarding the flight. "Amritpal Singh's wife Kirandeep Kaur has not been detained yet. The Immigration department is questioning her," a Punjab Police source, as quoted by ANI, said.

Singh tied the knot with UK-based Kaur in February this year. More than a month after a police crackdown against Singh and his aides, the radical preacher continues to remain elusive even as a manhunt to nab him is underway. Police on March 18 had launched the crackdown against Singh and members of his outfit 'Waris Punjab De.'

On February 10, Amritpal Singh got married to Kirandeep Kaur in a simple ceremony at Jallupur Khera, his native village in Amritsar. The 'Anand Karaj' (marriage as per Sikh rituals) was held with a limited gathering of family members from both sides at a gurudwara in Baba Bakala in Amritsar.

According to a report by news agency PTI, Amritpal Singh had urged people not to splurge money on weddings indulging in show-offs and advocated the narrative that marriage ceremonies should be simple. He, as per the report, had said that his marriage was an example of "reverse migration" and announced that he and Kirandeep Kaur will live in Punjab.

Punjab police have been on a hunt for Amritpal Singh since March 18, when he had gone absconding. Punjab police said last week that it had arrested Joga Singh, a close aide of the fugitive Khalistan sympathiser and radical preacher, from Sirhind in the Fatehgarh Sahib district.

He was arrested in a joint operation by Amritsar police rural and Hoshiyarpur police. Papalpreet Singh, another close aide of the fugitive Amritpal Singh was brought to Assam's Dibrugarh Central Jail after his arrest earlier this month from Amritsar's Kathu Nangal area.
