Anantnag Encounter:  Two militants were neutralised by security forces in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday after an encounter broke out during a search operation in Halkan Gali in the Shangus-Larnoo area of the south Kashmir district. Among the two, one has been reported as a local while the second terrorist was reportedly an outsider. Their affiliation was yet to be ascertained, the officials said.

The operation and further sanitisation are currently in progress and further details are still awaiting on the operation. Meanwhile, in a separate encounter heavy gunfire is being reported in the Khanyar area of Srinagar between the terrorists and security forces. So far, there are no reports of any casualties on either side, according to officials.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir stationed Chinar Corps posted on X about the Anantnag operation, saying that it was launched by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police & Srinagar Sector CRPF after suspicious movement was recorded in Halkan Gali.

"Based on specific input, a Joint Operation was launched by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police & Srinagar Sector CRPF in gen area Halkan Gali, Anantnag. On 02 Nov 2024, suspicious movement near Halkan Gali was observed and challenged by vigilant troops, as a result, terrorists opened indiscriminate fire on their own column. Own troops effectively retaliated, resulting in the elimination of two terrorists. Operation is in progress," the force posted.

Meanwhile, on the increasing terror attacks and armed forces-terrorists engagement in Jammu and Kashmir, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh denied it being an issue of security lapses. Compared to earlier times, the attacks have been reduced, the Defence Minister, who was in Kanpur on Saturday, said.

"Our security forces are on alert, such a situation will come that from there (J&K) terror activities will be fully wiped out and J&K will develop fast...the attacks that happened were unfortunate, our security forces are giving befitting reply also, so many terrorists have been killed," Singh added.
