Talking about Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s recent media interactions, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tore into the media for conducting interviews of the former despite knowing that he was facing ‘serious’ charges and was even rebuked by the High Court. PM Modi even linked Kejriwal to notorious criminal Charles Sobhraj. The AAP supremo was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case linked with the Delhi Excise Policy. However, he was granted an interim bail by the Supreme Court for campaigning in the ongoing Lok Sabha polls.
While interacting with the journalists of a news channel, PM Modi was asked about Kejriwal’s interim bail and the latter’s statement that he will not have to return to jail if the INDIA bloc wins the election. In reply to the question, PM Modi said he won't speak much as the case was sub judice but there has to be ‘accountability’ in public life and even the high court has made harsh comments in this case.
"Their case is in court, it is not appropriate to comment on it. But the High Court has made strong remarks on the liquor scam. Will there be no accountability in public life? There was a time when if a child was caught cheating, they wouldn't go to school. The parents of the cheating child would also be ashamed. Today, those who are accused are being paraded on their shoulders without any shame. This downfall is a matter of concern," PM Modi said.
On Kejriwal’s media interactions after his interim bail, PM Modi said, “In the past, dacoits were glorified. I am surprised that a journalist would go to interview a corrupt person. I had seen a Charles Sobhraj, who people used to go to interview.”
