Assam News: In a tragic incident on Sunday, a biker named Saddam Hussain lost his life near the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary in Assam's Morigaon district. The 37-year-old, from the Kamrup Metropolitan district, was riding his motorcycle when he was attacked by a rhinoceros that had wandered out of the sanctuary.

Witnesses reported that Hussain attempted to escape as the rhino charged at him. A viral video shows him abandoning his bike and fleeing into an open field, with the colossal animal in pursuit. Locals attempted to intervene, shouting in an effort to scare off the rhino, which can run at speeds of up to 55 kilometres per hour and weigh as much as 2,800 kilograms.

Authorities later discovered Hussain's body in the field, where he had sustained severe head injuries. A forest official confirmed the incident, stating, "The rhino came out of the wildlife sanctuary. We are investigating the matter."

The Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, located near Assam's capital, Guwahati, is renowned for having the highest density of one-horned rhinos in India. Recent statistics released on World Rhino Day show that the population of these remarkable creatures has significantly increased over the past 40 years, rising from around 1,500 to more than 4,000.

Adult Indian rhinos, the largest among the three Asian species, can live for up to 50 years. Kaziranga National Park, also in Assam, is home to approximately 80 per cent of the world's one-horned rhinos.
