Sarma made the announcement while speaking at a press conference in the state capital, Guwahati, after a cabinet meeting under his leadership.
CM Sarma also said that the government will create a new fund, which will be used to compensate the women who will be the victims of polygamy. He added that the motive of the fund would be to prevent them from facing any hardship in continuing with their lives.
He added, "The Assam cabinet today approved a Bill to ban polygamy. The Bill will be called 'The Assam Prohibition of Polygamy Bill, 2025'. It will be tabled in the assembly on November 25."
