Assam: Upset Over Not Getting New Clothes On Durga Puja, Minor Jumps Into Gadadhar River

A 12-year-old boy jumped into a river after being upset for not getting new clothes on Durga Puja in Assam’s Dhubri district, officials said on Tuesday. The boy, identified as Suman Roy, is a class 8 student at Gaikhowa Gandhigram Middle School and lives in the Golakganj area. 

The boy was unhappy with his family for not fulfilling his wish of wearing new clothes on the auspicious occasion of Durga Puja, which is one of the most celebrated festivals in the state. The boy expressed his frustration by taking the extreme step of diving into the Gadadhar River, which left everyone around him stunned.

The police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel arrived at the location after receiving information from nearby homeowners and immediately initiated rescue efforts. However, despite their efforts, they could not locate the boy and he remains missing till now.

Superintendent of Police in Dhubri district, Navin Singh said that they are still trying to find the missing boy and hope for his safe return.
