Atul Subhash Suicide: Actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut reacted on Wednesday to the death of a Bengaluru techie by suicide due to the alleged harassment by his wife and her family. Ranaut, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP, called the video by Atul as heartbreaking. condemned “fake feminism” from women who misuse laws to “extort” money from their husbands. She called the video by Atul as heartbreaking.

“The entire country is in shock. His video is heartbreaking. Fake feminism is condemnable. Extortion of crores of rupees was being done. Having said that, in 99 per cent of marriage cases, it’s the men who are at fault. That’s why such mistakes also happen,” Kangana told news agency PTI.

BJP MP Tejasvi Surya called for the introduction of gender-neutral provisions to protect both partners in a marriage. Speaking to ANI, Surya emphasised the importance of the family as a fundamental institution.

"I think the time has come for us to review many family-related legislations and, wherever possible, introduce aspects of gender neutrality to protect both partners in a marriage. The family is a very important institution--it is the foundation of society. Legislations that can be misused by one partner can harm the institution of the family and have serious social repercussions if not addressed," he said.

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Whitefield, Shivakumar, confirmed that Atul Subhash died by suicide in the early hours of December 9 due to alleged harassment from his wife and her family.

Speaking to ANI, the DCP said, "Atul Subhash died by suicide during the early hours of December 9. A complaint has been lodged at the Marathahalli police station in Bengaluru regarding this incident. Multiple cases were pending against him in Uttar Pradesh.

"His wife and her family demanded money from him to settle these cases and harassed him. For these reasons, he took his own life. Based on the complaint, we have registered an FIR against the accused, and an investigation is underway," the official stated.

Subhash's body was found hanging at his residence in the Manjunath Layout area, which falls under the Marathahalli police station limits, on Monday. A placard reading "Justice is due" was found in the room where he allegedly ended his life.

Before taking the extreme step, he recorded an over 80-minute video on Rumble, explaining the circumstances behind his decision.

In the video, which has now gone viral on social media platforms, Subhash can be heard saying, "I feel that I should kill myself because the money I earn is making my enemies stronger. That same money will be used to destroy me, and this cycle will keep going."

Subhash's uncle Pawan Kumar alleged his nephew was being harassed and tortured for money and that he was also humiliated by his wife and the judge.

"What has happened is very unfortunate. He was losing the case (filed by his wife). He was being tortured. They (wife and family) were constantly demanding money from him. To the best of his capacity, he was giving her money for child maintenance."

Initially the family demanded Rs 40,000 per month, doubled it later and then wanted the deceased to provide Rs 1 lakh.

Kumar charged Subhash's wife and her family with 'minting' money from his nephew under the pretext of child maintenance for the couple's four-year-old son.

He wondered how much money would be required to raise a child of this age.

"His wife even said that he should commit suicide if he cannot pay the amount to which the judge also laughed. This really hurt him," he alleged.

Following Subhash's death, a case of abetment of suicide has been registered against his wife and her family members.
